Paul Lukas is running a Redesign the Clippers contest and this is my submission:
I may be one of the only people who actually liked the previous Clippers logo. I thought it was neat that the two NBA teams in Los Angeles shared a similar design language. I always thought it would be better for brand consistency if the Clippers used their logo wordmark on their uniforms instead of the cursive script, which looked more like it belonged on a Dodgers uniform. Building off the nautical theme I wanted more of a blue-and-white color scheme with red used only as an accent color. I have the Clippers following the Lakers model of wearing a light color at home, dark color on the road and white uniforms on Sundays.
I’m not a fan of the Clippers’ abbreviated neckline, which reminds me too much of a rugby shirt worn by Gilligan on Gilligan’s Island. That’s why I used the clean, modern uniform template worn by the Lakers and placed the wordmark from the old primary logo on what I’ve always thought should be the Clipper’s primary color—blue. I kept the smaller, offset number which I think balances quite nicely with the oversized ‘C.’
